FMG ELIWANA MINE 33KV LINE DESIGN

As part of the new FMG Eliwana mine, Partum was engaged in the design of the 33kV overhead distribution network.

PROJECT SCOPE

The 33kV overhead distribution network interconnecting the following:

  • Mine Power Station.
  • Ore Production and Trade Load Out Facilities.
  • Telstra Radio Base Station.
  • Administration and Laboratories.

The project comprised of 4,500m of a phosphorus and cherry phase conductor along with a 144 core single mode OPGW conductor throughout the various areas of supply.

CHALLENGES OVERCOME

  • Adverse terrain across the FMG Eliwana mine.
  • Numerous avoidance and heritage areas.
  • Undocumented flood plains.
  • Difficulty obtaining site information.
  • Change in the termination points at the power station and the train load out facility.
  • Multi-disciplines working in parallel site wide with an evolving mine master plan.

Solution

  • Effective two way and proactive communication with the client ensuring expectations met and exceeded.
  • Previous experience utilised in the realignment of the powerlines.
  • Additional foundation designed to minimise rock excavation.
  • PLS CADD modelling to achieve optimal span lengths given the adverse terrain and avoidance areas.
  • Complete preparation of the power and earthing system modelling as part of the HV submission deliverable.
